For the week 3 discussion I was assigned problems 50 and 76.

  1. (3-6)1/3 The first step I will take to simplify this problem is to multiply the exponents. The reason that the exponents will be multiplied is because of the power rule. The power rule states that when two exponents are next to one another separated by parenthesis that they will be multiplied. (ar)s = ar*s

3(-6*1/3) In this step it shows where I will multiply the exponents. As a result of -6 and 1/3 being multiplied I will get the new exponent of -2.

3-2 In this step I show where I now have the new exponent and the exponent is a negative.

1/32 Because of the negative exponent 3-2 will now be the reciprocal of the base number and exponent.

1/9 This is the final answer which makes 1/9 the principal root of the square root of (3-6).

  1. √50 + √2 The first step in this problem is to simplify the √50 so that I can have the same base.

√50 = √2 * √25 = √2 * 5 In this step the √50 is changed so that the bases match and can be added.

√2 * 5 + √2 = 6√2 In this step the square root of 2 is multiplied by 5 and another square root of 2 is added to that which results in 6√2.

I was unable to use all of the vocabulary words based on the problems that I was assigned.
