Prewriting Worksheet

What is your narrowed topic? Write up to 50 words to provide details.

Working a good paying job vs. finding a life long career. Most people today want to see results now, such as having spending money in their account. Most people do not want to wait until they are old and gray to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Who is your primary audience or reader? Why? Write up to 150 words in your answer about your audience.

The intended audience is current college students with no specific age range. The reason for this audience is because I believe we are all trying to get an education to give ourselves the best possible chance for success in our professional future. Why am I working towards a Degree? To be competitive in the professional market of course. Is this the only reason?, of course not, however I believe it is the driving force for the majority of college students world wide.

In a couple sentences, or a 150-word short paragraph, what is your thesis statement, including your angle? Write what will appear in your essay.

My point is that a college degree may provide a false feeling of security for our futures. A college degree opens many doors for people, and there are many success stories. However, a great number of Americans lead a happy, succesfull life without ever having set foot on a college campus.

What topic sentences will you use as the foundation of your communication? (If necessary, add more points.)

• The amount of unemployed college graduates is high enough to scare the average person into a well paying job, and stay as long as possible.

• Having a college degree is great, but have you any actual experience to speak of?

• It can benefit you significantly to gain experience in a related field, by gaining hands on experience before you dedicate yourself to a 4+ year degree.

What method of organization and development will you use to develop your paragraphs?

• Introduction:

o We all have dreams of graduating high school, going to college, earning our degrees, and sliding right into that CEO position of a fortune 500 company right? Well, although it is not impossible, it is very unlikely for most of us. Fortunately, we can all be succesfull with a little planning, and setting realistic goals for our futures.

• Body:

o Everything has a beginning, and your future starts with keeping the end goals in sight.

o Knowing everything about your chosen career field before you begin, will increase your odds for success significantly.

o Do you need a degree to be successful? Success is measured differently by everyone. Some people measure success by the amount of money in your pocket, the house you live in, or the car you drive. Some measure success by the amount of gratification you get from doing what you love to do and being paid to do it.

• Conclusion:

o College may or may not benefit your career, that is up to you to decide. By doing thourough research on your desired career fields, the requirements for your chosen profession, and what is required to get to the top will help you decide which path to take. What is going to make you happy? You’ll never know by sitting on the sidelines of life!
