The Needs Statement:

In accordance to a report released in 2014 by the department of health in Illinois State, it is evident that the town of Mendota was ranked as one of the towns with the highest rate of veterans and retired soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder based on a five year study. Further research by the For Every Veteran Foundation revealed that the communication channels and platforms between the health providers and families in the city were poor and in some places on existent. For this reason, it is imperative to ensure there adequate provision and dissemination of information regarding post traumatic disorder and how the community can help the veterans affected to cope with depression.

The For Every Veteran Foundation panel observed that the local public library would be instrumental in providing and recommending veterans, their families and community workers with the right material and resources to help them obtain useful information. So as to implement this role of providing information and support to veterans ,the local library will be required to put in place a grant program that will enable it expand its programs and collections therefore be able to link families with Mendota city hospital and other community programs put in place to help the veterans.. Through this program, the hospital will be able to reach out to veterans and their families therefore be able to offer them the services and support they need (Nickolas, 2016).

This community project will target the family unit in the city including the veterans, their families and community workers. According to the 2010 national census, there approximately 7,500 students in 20 elementary schools and about six high schools. The organization intends to use the schools as the centers for the outreach program. The foundation will work with parent teacher associations from this schools to mobilize an audience for its programs which include training on the use of internet to obtain information on post-traumatic stress disorder and how to deal with it (Nickolas, 2016).The training session will also equip the trainees with counselling skills and inform them of the credible online support groups. The organization will also place adverts in the local newspapers and print out flyers which will be issued out at the local library to cover a greater audience in a bid to increase the turn out for the training.

The training is designed to equip both students and the veterans and their families with research skills which will come in handy in their day to day lives. There is a challenge of inadequate computers as the schools in the city have few computers and lack comprehensive training programs so the organization will have to provide the resources to undertake these trainings. Every parent and community workers will be invited to the training events to ensure that the community is collectively educated on matters related to post traumatic stress disorder.

Goal Statement and Objectives

This project aims to equip veterans and their families with internet research skills and provide information on post-traumatic stress disorder so as to improve the lives of veterans and their families by undertaking training sessions in conjunction with the local public library and the schools

Objectives

The library officials will attend 80% of the training sessions and document the progress made by the trainees and also provide the training the personnel to ensure that the services provided are quality.

The organization intends to create awareness on the need for management of post-traumatic stress disorder so one of its objectives is to put in place support programs for veterans with post traumatic disorder

Narrative Statement including Methods

Officials and trainees from the For Every Veteran Foundation will oversee the training programs.

Activities: There will be four internet training sessions for a month held on each Saturday afternoon facilitated by the library officials and community educators. The library will provide additional resources and materials to the trainees in terms of books, articles and studies that are relevant to the training. Peer learning will be part and parcel of the training program to ensure a friendly learning environment. Equipping the veterans and community workers with relevant information on post-traumatic stress disorder and providing a communication platform with the hospital will work to improve the quality of lives of the people in the community and reduce the rate of suicidal deaths by veterans (Community tool box, 2017).
