Subject: Writing Styles and Assignments for the Virginia Department of Transportation

Based on the documents I read on the Virginia DOT website, I can conclude that the type of writing done by the employees there is informative and update based. Each update is categorized into a specific section, i.e. Solutions, Under Construction, Coming Soon, In Design, etc. Each update is clear and concise, and describes the situation in enough detail to be informational, without being too technical for the average person to be able to understand. The updates are broken up into sections to highlight the different areas of the update. For example, the update on adaptive traffic signal technology includes a section on the intended purpose, why it’s being proposed, the budget, a timeline for the project, and then a summary list at the end of the update to summarize everything in an easy to follow and read list.

Each update includes a brief one-sentence description of what is included in the update so it can be easily distinguished between other updates for the same project.
