PLAN OF ACTION FOR ADDRESSING ALCOHOLISM

Introduction

Many people drink alcohol for lots of reasons, for instance when people get stressed they get drunk to help forget, others drink for fun while others drink because they cannot do without it, amongst many other reasons. The thing people do not understand is that they are putting their lives at risk every time they consume alcohol. Consumption of social drinking to being an alcoholic has many adverse effects.

Social Practices and Alcoholism

Social practices such as believing that a little alcohol is good for the body have led to some people becoming addicts of alcohol. Some people think it is okay to drive even if they had only two drinks. What they do not realize they are not as focused as they would have been sober which, can cause an accident. Then there are people will just drink and get drunk and get a ride home, they have not broken any laws but they are putting their health at risk. A party without alcohol is not party and teenagers always look forward to when they will reach 21 so that they can attend that party and drink to their fullest on the night of their birthdays.

Interdisciplinary Approaches

Holistic approach and integrating lawyers in healthcare is not enough simply because consumption of alcohol is legal and therefore, it is difficult to control how people consume it. Alcohol consumption is more of a behavioral issue and intervention in terms of rehabilitation and advice only comes when damage has already been done.

Effects of the lack of wellness and health in society

Lack of such approaches in the society has made alcohol consumption something normal. It is normal for people in a party to consume alcohol. In the evening after work before people go home, to consume beer is a norm. Even little consumption of alcohol is harmful to one’s health in the long run. Interpersonal problems arise when one drinks, for women they can give birth to children with defects and generally have health problems.

How wellness has influenced behavior

People have been urged to stop drinking alcohol because it has adverse effects on their health. The problem is that the people who come to seek help are those who are addicted to alcohol and it has affected their lives. People who consume alcohol and still have control on their consumption strongly believe that they do not need help and therefore continue consuming alcohol despite putting their lives at risk. Some, have reduced their consumption of alcohol and are working towards completely stopping consuming alcohol even in its smallest amounts.

Positive and Negative aspects associated with the topic

Positive aspect of the topic is that it will improve the health of individuals. Staying away from alcohol will improve the health of individuals as they will not be at risk of suffering the health problems that come with alcohol consumption. The negative aspect is how the public will view the topic and this is because not many alcohol consumers will be willing to stop drinking especially if they strongly feel they are not addicted. Alcohol addiction on the other hand is a major problem in society, families where one of the parents is a drunkard, the family is usually not stable.

Origin of the Issue and what it is about

Most people who start to drink alcohol start it as fun and are not expecting to be addicted to it. Most young people are always excited when they are 21, the eligible drinking age and therefore, they make sure they have consumed alcohol on that day. It always starts like that. Some individuals have had parents and friends who drink and therefore, drink as a result of peer pressure. Even though alcohol is a legal drug it is harmful to the health of individuals.

Who is impacted by the issue and what is important about them

This topic will target every single person who consume alcohol both addicted and those who are not addicted. They are at risk of suffering the negative health effects of alcohol consumption.

Explain how the chosen issue relates to a topic that has been discussed in this course.

Alcohol addiction is a global problem. Laws must be in place to regulate how much people should consume alcohol because of its health effects. Currently, alcohol consumption is legal and people can drink as much as they want and this leads to addiction. A law must be in place to regulate how much people should consume in a day, in other words it should be prescribed.

Assess how the chosen issue is impacting the target population

The chosen population is divided into two, there those who recognize they are addicts and need all the help they need to stop the addiction, and there are those who think they can handle their drinking. The second group feels this is useless and does need help. The first group feels that this is helpful as it will help them overcome their addiction.
