you need to write a thesis in the introduction(

Substance—

--does the essay have something worthwhile to say?

--is there an adequately supported (to include appropriate research) main point to it (a thesis) rather than simply a summary or compilation of things others have already said?

Organization—

--is there a clear beginning, middle, and end?

--are there graceful transitions between major sections of the essay, between paragraphs, and between sentences.

--is the essay logically organized?

--does the essay demonstrate coherence at the sentence, paragraph, and overall levels? That is to say, does a sentence or idea or paragraph logically follow the sentence, idea, or paragraph that comes before it?

Style—

--does the author demonstrate sentence variety and facility in the use of language?

--is the writing clear, direct, and readable? In other words, one doesn’t have to read a sentence or paragraph more than once to understand it.

Correctness—

--is the writing grammatically correct and appropriately punctuated according to the conventions of standard written English? Is it free of spelling errors?

--is the essay in an appropriate (MLA, Chicago, APA) format?

--is the essay free of usage errors and inappropriate word choices?
