After completing the Prospect Hill contour map, I learned how to look at the area of terrain in a different way. There is always a way to look at something different. By mapping out a different dimensional landscape allows me to view land on a wider scale. The contour lines show levels of elevation and the shapes of terrain. Knowing how to read a topographic map can allow me to understand what is in an area if I were to go camping or traveling in the woods. Knowing what is up ahead and how far will allow for a safer and more informed trip. People can benefit in several different ways when they know how to read a contour map. It will be an asset to know shapes of land when planning to plant, dig, or build.

I really enjoyed this lab! Thanks to my astronomy class I was already familiar with reading latitude and longitude coordinates, but I had never heard of township strips before, or how to mark a specific area in one.

The actual topography part was also new. I've seen topographical maps before, but I've never been able to visualize those maps in a 3D space as if I was actually in the area. After reading the lessons and doing the prospect hill map, I think I have a much better grasp on how the contour lines translate to physical landscapes.
