Amendment II: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I believe Amendment II was added to the Constitution so individuals can feel sheltered and safe regardless of the circumstance by protecting themselves. In reality, our world is not always a safe place to live. I feel at ease knowing that people can possess weapons in order to keep themselves out of harm's way. It is also a great comfort to know that we do not have to fully rely on the Militia to protect us because we can protect ourselves. Without the second amendment, we would have no legal way of protecting ourselves and our families, putting our lives at risk if danger was present. If we cannot control the threatening things that will loom in this world, we should be able to control how we respond to danger by defending ourselves, so we can enjoy life without living in fear.

At the time the amendments were added I  think they were done in hope of establishing a better type of government than what the people had been used to seeing in Europe, and the amendments were passed to shape the country and to bring a balance between the Anti-Federalist and the House Representatives. I think at the time all amendments seemed reasonable, but for me the most important amendment would have to be the 1st. The United States of America is known for being home of the free and land of the brave in majority because of the first amendment. Many people in other countries are not allowed to choose what religion they want to be or who they want to worship; they are not allowed to have free thoughts and freedoms. We are very fortunate to have these freedoms, we can think and say practically anything because of this amendment.  Women in some countries are not even allowed to speak their voices, we can. The press has the right to say or report what they believe to be true news. As a people we may not always agree but it is their freedom to report.  The first amendment also gives the people the right to protest peacefully as seen in the march by Dr. Martin Luther King; as time has passed we have witnessed may types of protest, in our times we have witnessed the protest again police brutality in many forms both peaceful and not so much. It is the right of the American people to protest for what they believe in and its because of the first amendment we can, if we choose to. The first amendment for me holds the most importance because people travel thousands of miles, thru countries, water, train, airplanes just to live here because they know that they will be more free here than in their country. It is easy to go day by day and not really think to much about our freedoms but at the end of the day we are very lucky that these amendments were introduced in the Bill of Rights.
