Which is more important for a person to possess, courage or truthfulness?
This is a tough question, and I found myself unable to answer it as it is asked. Do they not go hand in hand? I was struggling to separate the two, until I started typing.
To have truthfulness requires courage. In Nicomachean Ethics Book 4 chapter 7, Aristotle says, "being truthful both in life and in word, owning to what he has, and neither more nor less." Does this not require courage? Crime, retaliation, judgement, and even bullying are everywhere. Being true to oneself and others is courageous because the fear and lack of truthfulness in others can cause harm.
Courage is not the absence of fear but being true to oneself and standing against that fear anyway. Courage does require truthfulness. I know my beliefs, morals, and values. If they do not align with what I am "fighting" for, then I am not being truthful. "The man, then, who faces and who fears the right things and from the right motive, in the right way and from the right time, and who feels confidence under the corresponding conditions, is brave;" as Aristotle states in Nicomachean Ethics Book 3 chapter 7, mentions "from the right motive." Having the right motive requires truthfulness. Because my end result comes down to truthfulness, I would have to say truthfulness is more important.

Subject: Questions about week 2 writing assignment.
Professor Roberts, I am writing you due to the fact that I am unsure if there is a writing assignment for week 2 and I wanted to gain clarity to ensure my success in your class. Below are some questions that I have in regards to the assignment.
1. Is there a writing assignment due during week 2?
2. If there is a writing assignment due, what are the detailed instructions for the paper?
3. What is the due date for the writing assignment in week 2?
I appreciate all your support in this matter and look forward to your reply to my question.
Very respectfully,
Dave Jones
