When I participate in the "other world" of films I have a few precautions. I, personally, want to have a good understanding of what the film is about. Due to this, I tend to rewatch films rather than engage in new ones. However, if there is a series or film adaptation of a book (series), then I am a bit more prone to watching. I also do not like gore or scares. If something is rated R, I immediately pass over the film. If something is more thriller or Halloween-themed and it is not directly aimed at children, I also avoid it. However, I enjoy many Tim Burton films as well as mysteries, specifically those based on the novels of Agatha Christie. My precautions are based on how I expect the film to affect me later. For example, in middle school, I watched The Sixth Sense in my English class. All my friends enjoyed the movie and while I did at school, I began to have trouble sleeping at night. It was not that the movie was "scary", it was that none of the ghosts died normally (gory ghosts) and they were essentially jump scares to the boy (they would pop out of nowhere to see him). Because of this, this film freaked me out and I still avoid it as well as films like it. Essentially, I avoid films that are thrillers or are gory because that kind of stuff freaks me out and because I cannot predict what will happen in new films I tend to avoid those as well unless I have heard good things about it.

Whenever I watch "other world" films, I definitely like to know what the movie is about, I don't love movies that are considered to be fantasied so if I'm going to watch a movie relating to this topic, I have to know the basis of the film beforehand. There is a handful of movies regarding this topic that I do truly enjoy, such as, Harry Potter, Star Wars and several Marvel movies. I have seen many movies that are "other world" films, that I thoroughly did not enjoy, I feel like in this genre there is way too much gore and darkness involved within the majority of these films. If I am forced to watch a movie that includes those elements, I will typically close my eyes during the super gory scenes and sometimes it makes me lose interests in the movie as a whole.
