Assigned term: rural/urban

For your assignment you are to complete your own “keyword,” inspired by the text from Raymond Williams’s Keywords. The entry should include more than one definition of the assigned term, and should provide some commentary based on looking up the word’s history, other definitions, and importance within the assigned reading.  (1) Everyone has to write their own “keyword” entry (and to undertake this exercise, you can rely on the bibliographic resources -- e.g., the Oxford English Dictionary -- as well as other reputable sources found in the library). 

Instructions:

1.     “Use Raymond Williams as a model” does not necessarily mean that you should imitate Williams’ stylistic decisions, such as short-hand and the absence of in-text citations. We encourage you to consider how Williams developed his definitions, and the variety of information and observations that Williams uses in presenting the definitions of each word.

2.     You should absolutely cite your sources! (Williams cited his sources in a bibliography at the end of Keywords.) 

3.      You will write your own definition of your assigned word. (500 words, 12pt, Times New…)
