Guided Response: Analyze and respond to two of your classmates’ posts. Comment on an idea from each of their posts that you found interesting regarding the expansion of student enrollments, retention of students, and administrators’ difficulties in managing students during the time period ranging from 1920 to 1945.

Thelin (2011) mentioned that from World War I to World War II, university and college enrollments increased dramatically. However, the retention of students presented a challenge during this time period. College administrators had some difficulty managing students because of the expanded number of students being enrolled.

Discuss the role and responsibilities of faculty members during this time. How have these roles and responsibilities changed today? How have these stayed the same?  Do you think that college administrators and faculty members did the best they could to retain their students? Why or why not? What could they have done better?

During the time of World War I and World war II there was a sudden increase in enrollment of collegiate students. More private 4-year colleges institutions and private and public junior colleges started form thus making this collegiate dream more attainable for students and people. However, with the rapid growth of the college admittance schools became overpopulated causes school administrators and faculty members to take on more academic responsibility. College administrators and faculty members were teaching larger class sizes as well trying to keep a record of the students' graduation rate. Most important school administrators and faculty sought out to achieve reforms on campuses to create a new academic curriculum that sparks the interest and that useful to the many Americans who were entering: business, agriculture, or service careers such as teaching.

The role and responsibilities of collegiate faculty members have definitely changed. Universities and Colleges have gotten more populated with students and more academic courses that require academic guidance and knowledge. Higher education faculty is to ensure professional, and academic success for the students of their learning institution. The roles and responsibility have changed because now the school administration delegated certain roles to different faculty members so that the workload is divided and shared. The position has stayed the same by the administrators and faculty members are enhancing the student learning experience and developing new teaching pedagogy.  After reading the text, I think the college administrators and faculty members back then could have done more to help with the student retention rate. There was a lack of communication and reliability between professors/staff and students.

World War I and World War II brought many changes. One of the main changes was the increase in enrollment into the colleges.  Faculty and administrators had a very intense job, they had to make sure that the learning was progressing.  Class size began to increase in size, so this put more work on the professors. School back then were so different than the ones we have now, schools now have build teams to lighten their work load. Students today are more self- discipline and it helps while trying to stay focused.  Professor back then actually cared about you, Professors today are rude, disrespectful, and very narrow minded. They lack the manners.
