Organic chemistry 1

-hydrocarbons

The functional groups of alkenes, alkanes and alkynes.

Physical and chemical properties of these hydrocarbons

-APA  referencing style

Discuss the organic chemistry in relation to hydrocarbons. One to define what is meant by hydrocarbons, yhe n proceed to explain what  classes it has.To show the correlation between the classes of each hydrocarbons discussed.

The work written should have a title, topic, subtopics, the APA referencing style.

In addition to this, one should clearly show how the alkanes, alkenes and finally alkynes differ in in terms of chemical and physical properties.

Topic: organic chemistry 1

Lesson title: hydrocarbons

Teacher: mr keli

Introduction

Hydrocarbons are groups of organic compounds that contain hydrogen and carbon  only.

Hydrocarbons are grouped into two categories namely:  -unsaturated and saturated hydrocarbons.

Unsaturated hydrocarbons

These are hydrocarbons that have a double or triple covalent bond between one or more carbon atoms.

They have least number of hydrogen atoms in the molecule.

They burn with a yellow sooty flame hence produce a luminous flame when burnt.

This group has two classes:

Alkenes and alkynes

Saturated hydrocarbons

This class has a single covalent bond between carbon atoms. The hydrogen atoms have the highest ratio compared to carbon atoms.

They burn with a pale blue nonsooty flame.

The only class is alkanes.
