1.  While social media has its sets of perks, it comes with just as many negative side effects. Social media as we know has progressively becoming immensely judgemental. It would be one thing to be able to post a picture for your friends and families to view but simple buttons like "likes" and "comments" make social media to be this unspoken competition amongst your peers. We constantly strive to be the best versions of ourselves but often times it is hard to do that when your best isn't seen as "the best" in the light of social media. So yes I have used a filter on my last posted picture. If adding a filter can get rid of a few blemishes, then why not? In this day in age, it is safe to assume almost 90% of images seen on social media have been altered or edited in some way, shape or form. A way to become actively aware of these alterations is to find a central theme in the post and what the message is trying to convey. Working backwards like this by identifying the message and going back to see what could have been added or changed to enhance this message is a good way to sharpen our skills.

2.  We use Facetune and apply filters to our pictures to make them look more appealing and attractive. It is also to get more likes or attention. Some people also just do it because it is cool and to explore the different alterations out there. I, personally, use filters for what I think is a nice photo but there is some flaw standing out and using a filter will make it go away. I do not use very dramatic filters, I try to use one that is as close to the actual photo’s color as possible. Editing photos has the implications of “this person is not real” because they cannot show their true selves or that person gives off the vibe that they just want attention so badly. A lot of the time that is not even the case. We could change our thought processes to be able to not care or to be able to tell real from fake so you will not be deceived. I believe the purpose of altering photos should be of a personal nature rather than a business nature. Business related photos would be deceitful if there were filters because the consumer or potential customer would not get to see the real thing. They would be fed lies and that would be a good look for that company.
