Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions in yourself and others. In this activity you will explore your ability to understand your own emotions and recognize them as they are occurring, this aspect is the foundation for all other emotional intelligence skills.

ASSIGNMENT: (Minimum 300-word count total)

1.       Write a 100-word (minimum) essay about an experience when you felt one of the following emotions: Frustration, Anger, Fear, Anxiety, Sadness, or Depression. Describe fully the cause of the emotion (what created it) and your emotional reaction to the experience (how you felt). Your journal entry might begin, "Last week was the one of the most frustrating times of my entire life. It all started when… Most important:  Be aware of the emotions you are feeling as you are writing the paragraph.

2.       Write a 100-word (minimum) essay about an experience when you felt Happiness, Fulfillment, Delight, Satisfaction, Accomplishment or Joy. Once again, describe fully the cause of the emotion (what happened) and your emotional reaction (how you felt). Most important:  Be aware of the emotions you are feeling as you are writing the paragraph.

3.       Write a 100-word (minimum) essay about the emotional changes you experienced as you wrote each of the two paragraphs above. Describe what did you learn or relearned about how you can affect your emotions? If you were aware of any changes in your present emotions as you described past emotions see if you can explain why? Where you not experiencing any emotions at all? Or could you have been unaware of the emotions you were feeling?
