OVERVIEW

Your term project is to analyze a case study focusing on various aspects of project control and write up your findings and recommendations.  Case study write-ups should reflect your best writing efforts and should reflect the same level of care and preparation that you would use for any other undergraduate-level research paper.

Suggested guidelines to use when preparing your write-up are presented herewith.  Reading and referencing the material covered within the textbook is expected.  While not required, references to outside sources or personal experiences are encouraged to bring realism to the case-study write-up.  A scoring rubric for grading your write-up is included below.  Further questions should be directed to the instructor via email.

INSTRUCTIONS

You are to analyze the case entitled “Strategic Project Control Initiatives” excerpted from: Cleland, D. I., Bursic, K. M., Puerzer, R., and Vlasak, A. Y., eds. (1998). Project Management Casebook, Project Management Institute, Sylva, NC. 

Your case study write-up should address the following:

1. Discuss the project control systems presented in the case (be sure to address scope control, quality control, cost and schedule control, and others as necessary)
2. Relate the observed project control systems with those discussed throughout the course/text
3. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the observed project control systems
4. Identify and recommend suggestions to improve the project control for the Prentiss II project (high level recommendations are acceptable)

Case study write-ups should be from three (3) to five (5) pages in length when using double-spacing and 12-point Times New Roman font.  The due date for the case study write-up is July 31 at 11:59 PM. 

CASE GRADING GUIDELINES

1. Professional Appearance         5 points
   1. Consistency in layout, fonts, etc. 
   2. Organization and arrangement of write-up
   3. Bibliography (only as necessary)
2. Writing Quality                        15 points
   1. Language use including syntax, diction, and mechanics (punctuation, spelling, and grammar)
   2. Logical and easy to follow structure
3. Quality of Analysis                  30 points
   1. Demonstrates an understanding of the issues presented in the case and in the course 
   2. Support for analysis (examples, professional experiences, textbook, or outside references)
4. Academic Excellence              10 points
   1. Originality and creativity in ideas
   2. Logical and mature
   3. Other items that indicate the write-up is of a high-quality
