Regression is a statistic which is commonly used in the study of social sciences. This is a popular statistical tool which allows the prediction of a designated single dependent variable and at least two or more predictor variables (Urdan, C.T. 2011).

Regression is closely related to correlations. One of the advantages of regression is that it allows a more instinctive way to evaluate and interpret the predicted value of one variable when you know the true value of another (Urdan, C.T. 2011).

A health-based study example I found examines the effects of cannabinoid administration as an alternative to opioids for chronic pain relief. The national epidemic of opioid abuse makes this study extremely relevant. While opioids are helpful for acute pain, patients who suffer with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and cancer may benefit from alternative and comprehensive pain relief that might include cannabinoids. This paper compared records from 25 peer-reviewed studies comparing the administration of cannabinoids to that of a placebo, and the effects upon pain relief for the patients involved in the different studies. Multiple linear regressions were used to examine drug administrations for different characteristics such as age, sex, sample size, and pain (Yanes, J.A., McKinnell, Z.E., Reid, M.A., Busler, J.N., Michel, J.S., Pangelinan, M.M….Robinson, J.L. (2019).

Another similar study used a logistic regression model to investigate the effect of the medical cannabis program (MCP) and the changes in opioid prescriptions (Vigil, J.M., Stith, S.S., Adams, I.M., Reeve, A.P., 2017).
