A theme in Module 4 is Americans' actions and reactions to important happenings within their contemporary society, in that the Southern Diaspora was a response to many conditions affecting people's lives in both negative and positive ways. For this assignment, construct an essay in which your thesis attempts to explain the link between the social/economic happenings of the Southern Diaspora and jazz musical development. Because Module 4 presents multiple happenings related to the Southern Diaspora, you are encouraged to focus on only one of those happenings in order to accommodate the relatively short length of this assignment. 

Guidelines: 

- minimum length of 250 words (while students may submit longer responses, a response of minimum length may receive full credit according to the grading rubric)

- must be submitted as a typed response in .docx or .pdf format, submitted to the essay's assignment page only (not accepted via email)

- no heading is necessary, only the student's name at the top of the page, with the response beginning on the next line 

- must contain a thesis statement. This is a sentence, usually presented in your opening paragraph, that clearly states the writer's main argument. The remainder of the essay should set out to prove that argument, with a short conclusion that restates the essay's main argument. 

- students are enouraged to include their personal opinions and may write in the first person if desired (using the word "I" to refer to oneself)

- Students may draw upon sources provided within learning modules ONLY; no outside sources, internet or otherwise, may be used in the competion of assignments. 

- While Reflection Essays will always deal with topics contained in a specific learning module, students may reference sources from other modules if desired.
