Abstract

            Being innovative is an important trait in our modern well, considering the high level of competition in today’s technological, arts and business markets. Individuals and companies are constantly coming up with innovative ideas to change or impact the way we navigate through life. Intellectual Property (‘IP’) is intangible property that enjoys statutory protections (Jennings, 2018) Intellectual Property Law is the area of law that deals with legal rights to creative works and inventions. IP Law controls who gets to use creations including new products, artistic works, designs and inventions. The purpose of IP Law is to allow the people who create and invent things to profit from their work, and to protect their ideas from being stolen or misused. IP theft is a serious threat to creative in our society and it is essential that measures be put in place to govern the ownership of these ideas, inventions, designs and various innovations. This paper provideaan overview on what IP is, assesses IP as an area of law, breaks down its components and discusses the judicial enforcement of IP locally and internationally.
