Addressing a Business Audience
As you discovered in reading Chapter 6 this week, much of business writing uses reports and proposals to identify problems and find solutions. These formal writing processes are very similar to the informal acts we use every day, such as managing schedules, planning meals, as well as balancing work, school, and life. For this discussion, you will draw on your own experience to identify a problem and/or propose a solution. Your problem and/or solution can be personal, professional, or academic. For instance, you might need a car and want to evaluate if it is better to buy a new or used car or opt to lease an automobile. You do not have to use research here, but logic and critical thinking to assess the problem and evaluate the solution. We recommend that you think closely about some real-life problem-solving that you have recently grappled with as chances are, others have experienced similar challenges, thus making this assignment more relevant to them. Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7. Each response should be at least 125 words long. Use this forum to get acquainted and for any conversations that are not course related. Consider the difference between informal and more formal ways that people tend to solve problems.
