In Module 3, we explore the way societies are organized and how that relates to their cultural patterns for subsistence, economics, and political organization. By studying these concepts, we learn about different ways to organize resources and labor, as well as how other cultures resolve disputes and impose social control.

Option 1: Compare social control methods using examples from 2 cultures (not the US).

• Why do certain political and economic organizations (e.g. band, tribe, chiefdom, state) tend to use specific forms of social control (i.e., war, public opinion, witchcraft accusations, laws, etc.).
• Which forms of social control are most effective in your life? Why?

Option 2: Explain the changes that occurred in the following areas after the intensification of food production: population, division/specialization of labor, political and religious organization, and health.
