Are my background and PICOT questions done correctly?

Are my background and PICOT questions done correctly?

Background questions were formulated after the Walden Student Center for Success. (2012). Clinical Question Anatomy.  Currently, the American Nurses Association advocates for legislation that would empower nurses to provide exceptional patient care through The Registered Nurse Safe Staffing Act (ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights, 2015). With fewer patients to care for, nurses would be able to perform more thorough assessments, spend more time with patients, respond more quickly to changes in patient's conditions, prevent errors and adverse events and provide better quality care to patients which would in turn reduce hospital readmissions and lower mortality and sentinel event rates.

1.    In patients who have been admitted to med/surg floors P), what is the effect of higher patient-to-nurse ratios (I) on risk for/of significant increase in mortality, sentinel events, and readmissions O) compared with lower patient-to-nurse ratios (C) within their hospital inpatient visit (T)?

2.    Are patients who have been admitted to med/surg floors (P) who have higher patient-to-nurse ratios (I) at an increased risk for an increase in mortality, sentinel events, and readmissions rates (O) compared with patients who have been admitted to med/surg floors (P) with lower patient-to-nurse ratios (C) over the course of the patient's hospital stay/visit. (T)?

3.    For patients who have been admitted to med/surg floors (P) do lower patient-to-nurse ratios (I) reduce the future risk of significant increase in mortality, sentinel events, and readmissions rates (O) compared with do higher patient-to-nurse ratios (C)?

4.    Do higher patient-to-nurse ratios (I) influence significant increase in mortality, sentinel events, and readmissions rates(O) in patients who have been admitted to med/surg floors (P) over the course of their hospital stay (T)?

PICOT Question.PICOT is a mnemonic that helps you remember the key components of a well-focused question. It stands for: P = Patient, Population or Problem I = Intervention, Prognostic Factor, or Exposure C = Comparison (optional)O = Outcome T = Time.  In patients admitted to medical surgical units, does a high patient-to-nurse ratio predict an increase in mortality, sentinel, and readmission rates?

The author recommends considering the individual elements of the frameworks as interchangeable (depending upon the situation), rather than trying to fit a situation to a specific framework.
