Case Assignment

For this assignment, you will work through the prewriting and drafting stages of your writing process in an argument essay.

Choose one of the following topics below and take a stance in an essay developed by argumentation. The argument you decide on should concern a topic you care about so that the examples are a means of communicating an idea; not an end in themselves.

• eating, recreational hunting, and/or the use of animals for research purposes
• same-sex marriages
• children and technology
• the impact of technology on education
• the impact of technology on human communication and relationships

Which issue resonates with you most? What is your stance or specific point of view on the topic and how will you support your thesis using your own points supported by additional information found in two articles or websites by professionals?

Assignment Expectations

Be sure to:

• Develop an essay by using argumentation.
• Decide on something you care about so that the narration is a means of communicating an idea.
• Develop an enticing title.
• Use the introduction to pull the reader into your cause.
• Let the essay reflect your own voice (Is your voice serious? Cautious? Sentimental?).
• Organize your essay using supporting points with supporting examples and details.
• Use transitions to guide your reader through the essay—from start to finish.
• Include a concluding paragraph in which you “close” the essay and leave your reader with a lasting impression.
• Include no fewer than six citations in APA Style from two credible and reliable sources. Citations must be used for both direct and paraphrased quotations.
• Include a Reference List that lists the two sources in APA Style.
• Always check for typos or errors in grammar, punctuation, diction, and/or spelling.
