12. IMPRESSIONISM (France, 1865–1885) Characteristics: abundant bright colors, large loose brushstrokes, emphasized natural light, subject matter of landscapes and scenes of everyday life.

13. POSTIMPRESSIONISM (France, 1885–1910) Characteristics: subject matter of landscapes and scenes of everyday life, individual artistic styles which included pointillism (small dots of color next to each other), swirling brushstrokes, geometric patches of color.

14. FAUVISM (France, 1900–1908) Characteristics: flattened perspective, bright non-naturalistic/arbitrary colors, outlined shapes, meant to be fun.
