As a reminder, you can choose to do this assignment OR the video blog post assignment for this week. You don't have to do both!

This week, as we start reading Marx, I'm asking you to annotate specific passages of the Communist Manifesto in preparation for Monday's class discussion. Please see the reading assignment and study questions posted for Monday's class. Each of you has been assigned a passage from the Manifesto: please look at "People" here on Canvas to find out which passage number you should annotate and be prepared to discuss on Monday. Please post 3 substantive comments or questions on your assigned passage from the Manifesto before class on Monday.

For the rest of the week, continue posting questions and comments on the Marx reading assignments to get full credit for this week's Perusall annotation, which is due on Friday, April 3 by the end of the day. Use the study questions to guide you, but also follow your own instincts to find passages that affect you strongly.

I'm asking you to do this so that you can keep up on the reading and also continue discussing the text outside of class.

Here are some tips to succeed at this assignment:

• Ask probing questions about the reading so that I will know which parts are most difficult for you to understand. We'll discuss these in class on Wednesday and continuing next week.
• Upvote questions and comments by other students that you think are valuable and interesting.
• Make comments that are not merely summaries, but also interpretations. When you find something interesting, puzzling, beautiful or shocking, be sure to mark it and explain why you found it striking.
• Respond to your fellow students' comments and questions, so that you can help each other understand the reading.
• Check back frequently to see what new comments and questions have been posted.
• Don't forget to use hashtags! They will be very helpful for everyone in mapping out common themes and concerns in the text.
