- Primary Level: What do you see? What is the content of the work? This is the WHAT. - Conventional Level: WHO, WHEN, WHERE. Include a formal analysis of the artwork. Describe the use of color, line, space, texture, etc. You must use a minimum of 5 unique elements of design. How is the artist using these elements to convey an emotional response? - Intrinsic Level: WHY. This level will require you to do some outside research! Why did the artist create this work? What were they trying to accomplish? Are there any historic/social/political/personal circumstances that influenced its creation? Further consider the world view of the artist and how this work could or could not be used to inform a Christian perspective. 

(You must include at least 2 unique sources for this research. The museum’s website may have information on this piece. You may NOT use wikipedia. Your research should be from responsible, respectable sources. As a rule of thumb, museum and academic(university) websites are appropriate. If it is not an academic site - be sure there is an author’s name present as well as citations - you need to know where they are getting their information!) Example: The MET Museum’s site on Vincent van Gogh is appropriate, while vangoghgallery.com is NOT.
