ASSIGNMENT 1
Assignment 1: Devising a Presentation
There are a number of drugs prevalent in society. Remembering their
classifications, administration, symptomology, and duration of effects
can be challenging for you as well as for your students or trainees.
For this assignment, devise a presentation to help counselors
remember the classification, administration, symptomology, and
duration of the effects of prevalent drugs. Make your presentation
effective by adding tables, charts, data, links, graphics, and poems.
The presentation should be of approximately 10–15 slides. Name it
M3_A1_LastName_Presentation.ppt. Additionally prepare teaching
notes for the presentation and handouts to distribute to the class.
Submit your draft presentation and evaluation tool to
the Submissions Area and the Shared Documents Area by the due
date assigned.
Through the end of the module, review and critique the presentation
of one other student. Provide feedback, addressing both strengths and
weaknesses of the presentation. Does the presentation make a high
impact by using a mix of text, visual aids, and speaker notes?
All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for
attributing sources.
ASSIGNMENT 2:
Assignment 2: Discussion Questions

appropriate Discussion Area by the due date assigned. Through
the end of the module, comment on the responses of others.
All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for

Models of Addiction and Theoretical Approaches
Consider the following situation:
Joe is 35 years old. He is married and has two children. His income is
the family’s primary source of financial security. His wife has a part-
time job to help with the paying of bills.
Joe’s father, paternal uncle, paternal grandparents, and maternal
grandmother were alcoholics. His father also abused him. Joe began to
drink when he was in high school. His drinking gradually increased,
and now, he consumes a case of beer every day.
Joe and his wife often fight over Joe’s drinking. Joe has missed work
on a number of occasions (last week, his supervisor wrote him up for
absenteeism). Joe decides to seek counseling.
On the basis of the above situation, discuss the following:
What theoretical approach or model of addiction would you use to
address Joe’s situation? Support your answers with reasons.
Within that theoretical approach, what aspects would a counselor focus
on? Support your answers with reasons.
Evaluation Criteria for Discussion Question Response:
