Assignment 5 Overview

This assignment allows us to run an analysis from beginning to end. We will extract data from the textbook database using MySQL Workbench, import the data into RStudio, and create a scatterplot and Pearson correlation.

Assignment 5 Instructions

In Chapter 7, we worked with different charge and payment amounts weighted by the number of respective discharges; we did not, however, examine discharges themselves as a variable of interest.

1.     For Assignment 5, answer the following question:, “Does the amount of non-Medicare payment for states vary by the number of discharges?”

2.     Follow the instructions in Chapter 7 of the text to export the necessary data from the textbook database.

3.     Then import the data into RStudio to run your analysis.

4.     For step-by-step instructions on running the analysis using RStudio, see the attachment below. 

5.     For this assignment, you will submit a Word file containing a scatterplot, a correlation, and your interpretation of the findings.

a.     What is the correlation between payments and discharges? Positive or negative and what does that mean?

b.     Does it confirm your impression from the scatterplot?
