Communities that experience a disaster event usually experience delays in obtaining federal disaster assistance. However, with a coordinated agency such as FEMA, communities that suffer emergency events in the United States might be able to secure assistance within a few days of the emergency. Emergency managers in conjunction with the Joint Field Office (JFO) coordinate the access, distribution, and maintenance of federal disaster assistance programs. Securing aid may stem from federal sources alone, or public and private partnerships may also contribute to “funds” for victims suffering from an emergency event.

The Assignment (3–5 pages)

For this Assignment, consider federal grants or loan resources that are available after a disaster event. Then examine how these resources may fit with your community. Finally, using the natural disaster that you selected for your Final Project, submit a paper on the following:

• Describe at least three federal disaster assistance programs or sources (such as federal grants) you would anticipate using for your disaster event and explain why you would select these three.
• Explain how these three resources fit for your selected community.

This paper will be incorporated into your Final Project.
