Early childhood professionals are the guardians of children’s environments. As such, they have an enormous responsibility to foster and preserve the joy and magic of childhood by creating a Sense of Place in children’s environments. The purpose of this Assignment is to help deepen your understanding of the concepts of (1) Sense of Place and (2) Spatial Conditions of Emotions.

Part 1: Creating Nurturing Spaces
Using the provided PowerPoint template Download PowerPoint template, create a narrated presentation in the first section of the template: “Creating Nurturing Spaces” that illustrates and explains Sense of Place and the 5 Spatial Conditions of Emotions in early childhood settings. Use brief summaries and/or bulleted ideas on each PowerPoint slide and write a script of your talking points in the “Notes” section based on the instructions.
Part 2: DESIGNING NURTURING SPACES
When designers (interior decorators, landscape planners, architects) create spaces for clients, they often create a design presentation that tells the story of how the space will look, feel, and what emotions it will evoke. The design presentation includes images or samples of textures, colors, materials, and images of finished spaces, structural and decorative features, and furnishings. In essence, it is a visual representation of the designer’s ideas for the look and feel of the space.
For Part 2 of this Assignment, you will complete the second section of the PowerPoint Template: “Designing Nurturing Spaces” in which you showcase 5 ideas for creating emotionally connected environments that cover at least 3 of the Spatial Conditions of Emotions. Create posters, choose photographs, take photographs that represent your ideas and suggestions for creating emotionally connected environments using the Spatial Conditions of Emotions. Use brief summaries and/or bulleted ideas on each PowerPoint slide and write of script of your talking points based on the instructions in the “Notes” section.
Note: Your podcast should be approximately 10 minutes in length.
Part 3: Reflect, Reflect, Reflect
Use the third section of the PowerPoint Template, “Reflect, Reflect, Reflect” to share a reflection on your learning in this Module including your responses to these questions:
