Do This! Discuss CSCW 'shop' talk with a user of a video-based communication tool. Think about the video-based communication tools available: Skype, Google hangouts, FaceTime, Go-To-Meeting, etc. Talk informally with a colleague or a friend and find out how they use video-based communication tool(s). In what best circumstances does/do the tool(s) work well? When do they (tools) break down in terms of usability and functionality to support team/group work? What does the user think about "awareness" (re: extent of visibility and coordination) in collaborative design? Ask people around you how they shift between different communication tools: email, chat, SMS, telephone, video call, other, and how they describe that shift to support coordination or even online creative collaboration.
