Bad News Letter using this scenario : You are a teacher who has been in the same district for six years, but this year you have noticed an increase in violent behavior among your junior high students. After discussing it with other faculty in your building, you realize that this problem is widespread. You would like to propose that the district undertake a serious review of this issue and offer some ways of coping and/or of preventing further increase or intensity of this destructive conduct. You spoke with your principal about the situation, but she says that she has more than enough projects right now to deal with and cannot take on another new one, but she does not mind if you want to take the lead on this one. Your letter must convince the Superintendent, Dr. Bernd Hessing, that this problem is indeed real and serious without sounding like you are over-reacting. You need to tread carefully for you do not want to make the principal look incompetent, but you need to emphasize the potential harm if nothing is done. You might suggest assisting in the process.
