Reflection Paper:

Organizations are complex human constructs. We will be studying many different facets of their nature; some maybe of greater interest to you than others.  Pay attention to the areas that may at first blush seem uninteresting, archaic, boring and/or simplistic (don’t skip over them) because as you progress through the course you may find yourself revisiting earlier material based on the intellectual stimulation you received from subsequent writings. The reflection paper allows you to review areas of interests in your readings and write in those areas, comparing and contrasting the thought leaders in each relevant area. Using the week’s readings as the main background, write up your own experiences that validate or invalidate from your perspective particular elements related to the readings----3-4 pages, double spaced.  This is a place where you can exercise creativity and explore the infinite potential synergies amongst the many facets of organizational theory.

The reflection paper should have a very short and succinct one paragraph executive summary, introduction, main body, and summary/conclusion. Twenty percent of the paper should briefly cover the readings with the remaining 80% devoted to your opinion/experience related to the readings. The best papers utilize information from both required textbooks and interrelate the book material with your own experiences. The paper should be well crafted and tell a story.

Reflection papers are evaluated on the following criteria:

1. Mastery of the theory based from the readings 2. Organization of paper 3. Practical application of experience or student’s related to the reading theory 4. Writing style 5. Meeting the paper guidelines

These criteria are weighted equally.
