Beowulf is an epic poem, and the character Beowulf is an epic hero. Beowulf is a poem from the earliest period in British Literature, the Anglo Saxon period. 

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a medieval romance, and the character Sir Gawain is a chivalric hero. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is from the Anglo Norman period in Early British Literature. 

Both Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are examples of literature from the Middle Ages in Britain. The Middle Ages has three periods of literature -- 1. Anglo Saxon literature 2. Anglo Norman literature  3. Middle English Literature 

Question: Please discuss what you believe are the similarities and differences between these two sorts of heroes. Discuss such aspects as the tasks they perform, their overall missions, their motivations, and the values they exhibit based on their cultures.
