1.Do you think Cheryl Hopwood was treated unfairly?

2a. If no to Q1: Cheryl couldn’t help that she was born a member of the white majority. This is a factor over which she had no control, so why should she be rejected from medical school just because she’s white? Does she have a right to be considered solely on the basis of her academic and personal merit?

2b. If yes to Q1: Cheryl did nothing to be born with the capacity for high achievement. Her natural talents are another factor over which she had no control, so why is she entitled to be judged only by her personal and academic merit?

3.     Do you think we still need affirmative action in college admission to correct for inequality in educational backgrounds by taking race into account?

4.    Both small and large companies need to follow affirmative action policies (employees’ demographic population must match the focal area’s workforce population) if they want to provide goods or services to the federal or state governments (Executive Order 11246). Do you think it is fair to impose affirmative action on a business organization whose main goal is to increase profits not to promote diversity?
