"Data Warehousing" Please respond to the following:
Having live data accessible all the time for an indefinite period is expensive. This is why data warehousing is so important. This week, we’ve been looking at data warehouse planning. When you consider your plan for data warehousing, what do you think are two of the more key items to think about? Is there a recommendation to management that you have in mind already, just from your studies this week? See if you can pick up any important points from your classmates that you hadn’t considered and comment on their posts as well.
When I consider Data Warehousing I think the two most important elements to consider are Data Speed/ Latency, and the Maintenance costs. When I think about data Speed/ Latency I am referring to how long it’s going to take you to make your uploads into the system, and how long users are going to be waiting for the data to download to their computers. You are going to have to upload updates to your data constantly and you don’t want to be waiting for a long period of time to ensure it makes it up there. Your users also are not going to want to work on it if you have to wait for a long time for the information they need in a hurry. The other area you need be concerned with is the Maintenance costs of the Data Warehousing. If your costs are too high you might want to keep looking at other options. Scalability comes at a cost and its not just for more space but it will also come at a cost of maintaining that extra space.
