The idea of "once upon a time," creates society's idea of having a perfect world, with perfect people. Giving children hope of magic and miracles if you believe and are perfect. Fairy tales are false stories shared throughout history around campfires, which turned into novels. Novels develop the claim if you are beautiful, then you will be saved by a prince and taken care of for the rest of your life. These false fabrications of perfection in beauty create the image that women are fighting against in modern day society. Both "The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood," and "Cinderella" or, The Little Glass Slipper, by Charles Perrault are tales of women who come from wealthy families or have become beautiful by false wealth through the help of magic and are then accepted by a man for marriage. The false idea that women must be kept away and saved by a man has been demonstrated time and time again. This has been the exact ideology that history has followed, with women staying at home and being taken care of by their husband, who is at work. These false tales have had a significant impact on the lives of young girls. These stories suggest the idea that a man will only love you if you are perfect, well dressed, and act proper. The very struggle of self-image for females is shown through stories told since they were young. A commonality between Fairy tales is that they tend to support the misconception that women have to be beautiful to succeed in life. Fairy tales suggest that women are inferior to men, as they are only taken care of if they are beautiful. One manifestation of the intersection of social categories is demonstrated in Cinderella; this is portrayed through beauty and its role in how women are perceived and treated in society. Female inferiority is also represented in Sleeping Beauty, as an affluent male can only save her.
