Problem 1

A professor is interested in comparing the characteristics of students that vote compared to students that do not vote in elections. She decided to compare the CPA (grades) of students. For a random sample of 115 students that reported they had voted in the previous elections she found a mean CPA of 2.78 and a standard deviation of 0.56. For an independent sample of 123 students who had not voted, she found a mean CPA of 2.74 and standard deviation 0.63. Test at the 5% level of significance if in general the mean CPA of students who vote is higher than the CPA of students that do not vote.

Problem 2

We are examining job changes among employees and collect data for a random sample of 25 males and a sample of 16 females. For the sample of male employees the mean number of job changes was 2.91 with a standard deviation of 1.32, while for female employees the mean number of job changes was 1.21 with a standard deviation of 0.53. Test if in general women employees change on average fewer job positions compared to men employees. Use a 1% level of significance.
