Final Exam – HIST 209: History of Mexico - (50 Points)                 Spring 2017

This exam is composed of a short answer section and an essay portion. Each short answer question will be worth 10 points (20 total), and the essay will be worth 30 points. This exam will be due no later than midnight on may 8th. You must turn this exam into the course shell.

Section One: Short Answer – In 1-2 paragraphs, define, describe, and explain the importance of the following terms:

1.     Zimmerman Telegram

2.     Ferdinand Maximilian von Hapsburg – (1832-1867)

Section Two: Essay – Write a 3-6 page essay (typed, double-spaced) on the following question. You must cite sources within the essay. Write an essay on the questions below. The essay must have an introduction, thesis statement, and a conclusion that uses analysis and critical thinking to the support it. Using specific examples from the course material to support your ideas will add to your essay. Refer to the essay rubric in the course shell.

1.     Examine and analyze the development of Mexico since the Wars of Independence. Identify the major political factors of this period. How have these political factors shaped modern Mexico? How has society during this period contributed to Mexico today? What are some components that make up this contribution? How has Mexican culture changed since the Wars of Independence? Overall, do you believe these changes have made a positive or negative (or both) contribution to the Nation of Mexico in today’s world? Why or why not?
