I like your comment, I would like to add some interventions with teenagers who suspect depression.
I would encourage an open expression of the teenager’s feelings by asking open-ended questions to find out when sadness was becoming overwhelming for them. I would provide them various coping mechanisms (i.e. guided imagery or relaxation) to help the adolescent focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses – I would want to give them their power back. “Moreover, nurses may promote mental health promotion in both children and teens by teaching them effective coping skills and stress-reduction techniques” (Edelman et al., 2014, pg. 526). Meditation is an example of a stress-reduction technique as well as establishing a routine to help them regain feelings of control.
