I really enjoyed and learned a lot from reading your post, as usual! Your rationale for the medication administration was very concise and informative. While researching this topic, I realized that Lasix was almost always considered from ADHF patients, and there are many reasons that its use as a 1st line drug for diuresis in HF patients is standardized. For instance, Lasix usually works quickly and effectively, is generally tolerated well even at high doses without complications, and it has a relatively low cost compared to other options (Joseph, Cedars, Ewald, Geltman, & Mann, 2009). Diuretic therapy for a patient with fluid overload, especially when the respiratory system is compromised, is essential as “early intervention in this regard has been associated with better outcomes for patients hospitalized with ADHF” (Joseph et al., 2009).
