It was in the period from 1602 onwards though that he was said to have his most inspired period, churning out masterpieces that include Othello., Hamlet, Macbeth, and King Lear (BBC).

The play details the tragic plight of Othello, a Moor, who had wooed and married a young woman Desdemona, who in turn was being pursued by the rich person Roderigo in cahoots with Iago, Othellos ensign. Iago would manipulate Othello into becoming jealous of a non-existent affair between Desdemona and Othellos favored lieutenant Cassio. In the end Iago would succeed in totally poisoning Othellos mind to the point of actually killing Desdemona in a premeditated murder. He would learn of Iagos evil machinations too late, and would fail in his attempt to kill Iago after learning of his deceit. He would be notified of his arrest, but Othello ended up killing himself using a sword that he had with him. Iago was sentenced for execution in the end (Shakespeare).

One key theme in the work revolves around the follies and the deceit that can dominate human relationships. In the play the ambitions of Iago compel him to lie and to deceive, and in the process cause much evil, misery and death. Othello would be the primary victim in the play, as was Desdemona, whose pure intentions and noble spirits were nevertheless thwarted ruined by the evil designs of Iago. Another related theme here is the gullibility of people and their inability to distinguish between genuine and fake emotions and intentions, once their minds had been clouded with doubt. Desdemonas pure heart and intentions were manifested in the beginning, when he stood by her man and chose Othello over his father in front of a whole court.
