For Machiavelli, a good leader is the leader that is mostly feared. Therefore, a good relationship between a leader and his people is the one that is never equal – the leader should always maintain that air of superiority, of being fearsome, in order to maintain order especially for statesmanship. Another point made by Machiavelli is that human nature can be very flimsy, as it depends on a person’s circumstance.Machiavelli’s The Prince is one of the most important books there are in the history of politics. It talks about how to be a leader. However, it talks about some of the points confusingly. For Machiavelli, the presence of a good military is evidence that it has good laws. This is true, as well as the belief that a good nation lies in part of being successful in war. Machiavellian belief lies heavily on human psychology. It is with Machiavelli that we hear the words “It is better to be feared than to be loved” (Chapter 17), but avoids being hated by people. According to Machiavellian belief, being hated can be a downfall of a leader, and you would not want that to happen, especially if you are a leader. However it sounds like it is fooling people, the fact that one should never let the people see a leader’s weakness.
