Complete 4 pages APA formatted article: Community service work journal/ political science. I am currently taking a Political Science class and we are required to participate in 12 hours of community service. The community service is designed to help us apply our skills, knowledge, good judgment and critical thinking. The organization I chose to work with was a child development center at 21250 Steven Creek Boulevard Cupertino CA 95014 at De Anza College. The children I chose to work with are four years old. I chose this age group because children are at their highest level of perception and learning, and it is essential that they have the appropriate level of support.

The first stage of my volunteer work was 30 minutes of orientation. The manager who was in charge of the volunteers informed us about the program and the main goals of the organization. The manager told us that the goals of the organization were to help children prepare for school and provide them with love and emotional support. In particular the organization mainly aimed to improve the socio-emotional readiness of the children. The organization believes in creating a non competitive and caring environment that helps children to grow both mentally and physically. My main duties were to read books to the children, play with them, assist the organization with cleaning toys and other sections during class time, and I was also required to watch the teaching process of children which was designed to help me in understanding how to better relate to children. The program prepares children in the district and is responsible for the provision of care for individuals from 18 months to five years old. The organization is dedicated to assisting members of families who have affiliations with De Anza College. The program helps individuals who have different ethnic and financial backgrounds and tries maintaining a minimal teacher to child ratio.
