By the turn of the century, many Mexican American individuals worked as farm laborers and tenant farmers on lands owned by the ‘whites’ or the Anglos (Marquez 3). Mexican Americans faced discrimination, disfranchisement, lynchings and many other human disparities. Anti- miscegenation laws prohibited intermarriage with Anglos. This paper will review the thesis of the David Montejano’s article as well as analyze Howard Zinn’s opinion on the presented article. Thesis of the article Montejano reviews the effects of the United States’ diminishing position in the capitalist global scheme for the lately gained political housing between Anglo trade and political development in the Southwest Chicano’s average group politicians. The numerous protest movements that ganged up to constitute the Chicano Movement of the 1960s and 1970s demanded for politics of enclosure in order to bring Mexican Americans into the system of United States social and political life (Montejano 6). David Montejano assesses the post-movement years, asking, "What went wrong? What went right? and where is Mexican American position now?" Collectively, Montejano analyses a diverse portrayal of the complex situation of Mexican Americans when the twenty-first century began (Zinn 98). Montejano seems to ask whether a probable future of economic stagnation would bring forth a revival of the ethnic or group strife and repression that described Anglo-Mexican associations in the ancient years before the eruption of World War II. More so, Montejano questions whether educated headship from the Anglo and Mexican societies would jointly solve useful rules that would hinder the increase of a Chicano under group and other activism groups (Montejano 23). Howard Zinn’s opinion on the article Before outlining zinn’s opinion on Anglo Mexican segregation during the 21st century, it would be crucial to consider the role of zinn, in the US political history. Zinn Howard has written numerous books, and the common theme in these books is to spur a great consciousness of America’s racial injustices, sexual inequality, class conflicts and national arrogance especially to those expressed in the marriage of predatory capitalism, government power, permanent militarism and unjust laws. Therefore, his aim was to empower the citizens to develop independent and critical judgment as well as learn a different version of history. Zinn have always insisted on writing different history that would make citizens doubtful of what they get to hear from authority, and history that would foster a permanent adversarial culture in peoples’ lives. However many critics have come up to criticize zinn’s work because people claim that zinn is neither a straight activist nor a politician. Nevertheless, zinn seem to participate more in activism and empowering people. Zinn’s opinion on David Montejaro’s article ‘Anglo Mexicans in the twenty first century would not be an exceptional case compared to others because zinn would speak his mind vehemently concerning the presented piece. Zinn begins by claiming that the depicted segregation in Mexican American societies was evident in numerous centers of the south west, and that the main cause of this segregation was political courses and grounding of agricultural establishments of the area (Gonzales 147).
