Download file to see previous pages...I have likewise learned that this strategic direction must be succinct and can be easily understood by the organisation’s stakeholders (Lawson, Rotem and Bates, 2003). In this regard, my refection is that all the stakeholders of the organisation would accept and grasp the context of change as being constant, thus requiring versatility from the organisation and its members. As a member of the hospital staff, I believe that the most important values that must be exemplified in the workplace are teamwork, patience and respect for the individual. Through manifesting these basic qualities, I would be able to influence my co-workers and the patients, thus producing a more harmonious environment. I believe that effective teamwork in a healthcare setting promotes benefits in the quality and safety aspect of the practise. I have realised that through better performance, team members are more likely to be flexible, adaptable, have the ability to resist or manage stress and gain morale (Cole, 2005). At this point, I can evaluate theories such as those used in reframing leadership (Bolman and Deal (2008) and practise within the context of the health sector. I have also realised learning styles are important since these aid one in identifying how information is absorbed and processed. I have realised that all the roles in a health organisation are interdependent, thus requiring a harmonious and a collaborative system that would ensure that everyone delivers. In that regard, I have learned that health care staff must practise cooperation and team work, as inability to do so would result to adverse implications towards the hospitals and the patients involved (Harris and Associates, 2006). Culture of the Organisation Another important aspect that I have learned is to know one's orientation towards change. Effective and clear communication enables cultural competence, which can be achieved through valuing diversity and respecting each individual regardless of differences. Moreover, I have learned that it strengthens an organisation’s capacity for cultural evaluation and being aware of the dynamics implicit in the interaction process of various cultures. I can now explain how cultural competence is critical: it enables organisations to provide health services amidst cultural variances (Mazur, 2010). Health Leadership In the aspect of leadership, I have learned the difference between the business managers from a clinician is managing the health workforce is that the latter focuses on providing service rather than gathering profit. Health organisations are bound by legal and ethical systems that help medical professionals to carry out their tasks in a professional manner. Medical professionals are bound by ethical principles which they must comply with (Degeling, Maxwell, Iedema, and Hunter, 2004). I can now discuss how ensuring effective delivery of health services does not only pertain to executing tasks, but also adhering to ethical practise and upholding one's social responsibility. Another concept of leadership which I have learned about is power. I have learned that power is what one has. Being a good leader entails the capability to interlink clinical practise with management.
