The Art of Printmaking A print is made from the plate whereby I employed soft ground technique since it has high grease content and is easy to press on any texture into the metal plate. The process is very simple. The printing plate is first beveled and prepared nicely and then it’s washed and let to dry for degreasing purpose. The plate is placed on another hot plate, soft wax is melted on the same hot plate whereby rollers are used to thinly and evenly spread the wax across the plate.
At this stage the plate is left to cool before etching takes place. A plate is placed in a thin paper and covered before drawing on it. On the piece of paper which covered a soft wax coating on the metal plate a drawing is made. The wax where the pencil had presses was removed after lifting the paper. As manifested in the print the lines are pencil like or crayon.
The process is very simple as mentioned earlier and I was happy with the outcome. From the print, I ought to show the usefulness of art in transmitting important messages to the community and society at large. For instance, a person can be spotted smoking whereas the T-shirt this person is wearing is printed in capital letters “STOP SMOKING.”
My most like is the print of the first state as it shows clearly the crayons or pencil like lines and its much clear than all others.
In conclusion, it was a very nice experience to use both the aquatint and the dry-point skill. The dry-point shows the impression of the plate on the paper whereas the aquatint does not but shows some dark areas.
