The purpose of my writing today is to produce on paper my insight with regard to one of the papers published on Jean Piaget by John. H. Flavell. In the writing of Flavell I found deep respect for Piaget’s work. Of particular interest to me was the emphasis that Flavell laid on the direction that Piaget’s thoughts took. I quite agree with him on this observation. He thought about things that no one else ventured close to. I found this aspect fascinating that he took a unique approach towards developmental psychology. It is intriguing to me because I believe that if we are better able to comprehend the cognitive structures and their means of development in the formative years of child hood, it could prove to be highly efficacious for the growth of developmental psychology, so much so that we may come up with answers to peculiarities. We may also learn to intervene earlier and salvage the damage that is already done by different disease processes, merely by widening our knowledge and understanding of both the normal and the abnormal. At a point in the article, Flavell mentioned that Piaget introduced into the world the idea that children are not passive learners. I found this concept to be very true to life and interesting. The fact that children learn by an active process certainly helps to broaden our horizons towards a process that is not simple.
