The basic interview sequence is helpful on revealing four aspects of a listening sequence. They include reflection of feeling, use of summary, observation skills and response to questions. This was the intent of my interview. Dr. Allen’s measures delve further into the nature of the interviewee.
In Ivey’s case, he is focused on understanding the aspects such as influences by multicultural experiences, the reflection of meaning, level of focus, confrontation aspect, influential skills and establishing personal styles. These elements are part of establishing the ideal definition of an individual’s personality.
In ordinary interviews, the focus dwells on establishing the general elements that an individual prefers. Therefore, the interviews are based on establishing preferences and their effect on an individual’s decision-making and persona. In comparison to Ivey’s interview methods, it is basic data that require elaboration.
Ivey’s methods are more detailed, and they serve to provide a more broad understanding of an individual and discovering whether his/her cognitive thinking is a foundation of the personality. Based on the various micro skills that Ivey’s interview method entails, he can establish a full understanding of an individual. Ivey can establish why a person will do a certain action and disregard others (Ivey, 2009). The interview tool is an element that can establish and reveal the complex factors that influence cognitive thinking.
