The main theme of the book is combating racism, and the writer has achieved this through narrating events that surrounded the black people living in the area. The message it passes to the society is teaching people to respect the culture of other people and stop practicing racism. Harper Lee also talks about other important virtues in the society, including tolerance, courage, compassion and justice. Atticus Fitch, the white lawyer fighting to help the life of an innocent young man, shows his boldness when he defends a person of different race, a feat that was previously unheard of (Lee, 6).
